Dear Misses wurden 2017 in Muotathal in der Schweiz gegründet und besteht aus Fabian Schelbert (voc, git), Jonas Marty (voc, git), Cornel Betschart (dr), Remo Betschart (b) und Belinda Villforth (voc, perc). Ihr selbsterfundenes Genre «Bluesadelic» setzt sich aus Garage, Blues, Rock, Psychedelic und Country Elementen zusammen.

Die Band hat bisher drei Studio-Alben, eine EP sowie zahlreiche Musikvideos veröffentlicht und schweizweit zahlreiche Shows gespielt. Mehrere Songs schafften es in nationale und internationale Radioprogramme (u.a. CH, USA, NZ). Ihre Platten atmen den analogen Geist von Magnettonbändern, Oxidation und Unordnung, ihre Live-Shows sprühen vor Spontanität. 2024 wird ein neues Studioalbum veröffentlicht.

 

 

Die Anfänge 2017 - 2019

Dear Misses wurden 2017 von Fabian Schelbert (voc, git, b), Cornel Betschart (dr) und Jonas Marty (voc, git, b) in Muotathal, Kanton Schwyz gegründet. Am Anfang standen ein Tascam 8-Spur Kassettendeck, ein miefiger Aufnahmeraum im Keller ihrer damaligen WG, eine handvoll Songideen und zwei Wochen Weihnachtsferien. Spontan und ohne jeglichen Druck wurde das Debut Album „No. 5 Small Town Tunes“ in wenigen Tagen aufgenommen. Dies klingt, wie ein Debut klingen muss; roh, energiegeladen, dreckig und unperfekt und wurde auf Vinyl auf dem Bandeigenen Label „Monobuster Records“ veröffentlicht. Acht Eigenkompositionen und drei Covers verzieren die Scherbe. Garage, Blues, Rock, Country und Psychedelic waren die Zutaten. Schnell machte das Album seine Runden in Musikkreisen, Radio Airplays, unter anderem in den USA und der Schweiz sowie erste Live Gigs standen an. Als Live Verstärkung am Bass wurde Ueli Betschart dazu geholt und die Deutschschweiz wurde eifrig betourt. Ende 2017 wurde bereits der Nachfolger „Green is the New Mustard“, erneut im stickigen Kellerstudio und auf 8-Spur Kassette eingespielt. Diesmal hatte die Truppe nur vier Originale und ein Cover im Köcher, wodurch das Minialbum nur digital veröffentlicht wurde. 2018/2019 standen weiterhin im Zeichen zahlreicher schweizweiter Konzerte.

 

Monster’s Mother – Dear Misses wächst zum Quintett 2020 - 2022

Im Sommer 2019 wurde das neue, voll analoge Tonstudio in einem 100-jährigen Haus, eingerichtet. Nun stand eine 16-Spur Halbzoll Bandmaschine zur Verfügung, was für Dear Misses-Verhältnisse schon Hi-Fi ist. Die Band nahm eine Konzert-Auszeit, um sich voll und ganz auf das nächste Album konzentrieren zu können. 19 Songs wurden geschrieben und eingespielt. Entstanden ist «Monster’s Mother», ein sehr vielfältiges Album, auf welchem sich die Band keine Grenzen gesetzt und ihre stilistische Vielfalt verfeinert hat. Das Doppel-Album wurde auf Vinyl erneut via Monobuster Records im Herbst 2020 veröffentlicht. Zahlreiche Airplays, sogar in Neuseeland, etliche Reviews in Musikmagazinen und gute Vinylverkaufszahlen waren die Ernte für die harte Arbeit. „Mr. Bombastic“ schaffte es sogar in die Rotation des westschweizer Radios „Couleur 3». Bassist Ueli Betschart gab 2020 seinen Ausstieg bekannt. Als Nachfolger wurde ein alter Bekannter ins Boot geholt; Thomas Uttinger. Zudem wurde Belinda Villforth, welche bereits auf dem letzten Album als Gastsängerin zu hören war, fest in die Band aufgenommen als Background- sowie gelegentliche Leadsängerin und Perkussionistin. Neben vielen Konzerten werkelte die Band schon am Nachfolger.

 

Frankie Trombone - Ausflug in Country Gefilde 2022-2023

Auf dem dritten Studioalbum haben Dear Misses einen echten Stilbruch hingelegt. Verzerrte Gitarren und aufheulenden Fuzz-Solos wurden durch akustische Gitarren, Pedal Steel Guitar, Mandoline, Violine, Blues Harp und mehrstimmigen Gesang getauscht. Unterstützt wurden sie dabei von Simi Fässler an der Pedal Steel Guitar. Es ist ein Konzept-Album über das Leben des fiktiven Wildwest-Outlaw „Frankie Trombone“. Die 12 Eigenkompositionen handeln vom sprunghaften Leben eines Aussenseiters, seines Herzschmerzes, Einsamkeit, innerlicher Zerrissenheit, sozialer Ächtung, Scheitern und schlussendlichen Todes. Trotz der lyrischen Schwere tragen die Songs einen Vibe von sommerlicher Leichtigkeit. Auf musikalischer Ebene wird Gram Parsons Vision der Cosmic American Music fortgeführt; Country und Folk werden mit Rockabilly, Psychedelic, Blues und sogar Trip Hop vermischt. Tief beeindruckt vom Maestro, „Ennio Morricone“, sind auch Elemente des Italo-Western-Soundtracks in den Songs zu finden. Typisch für „Dear Misses“ wurde das Album komplett analog aufgenommen und abgemischt. Fürs Plattencover posieren die fünf Musiker/Innen in massgeschneiderten, mit Glitzersteinen und psychedelischen Sujets verzierten Nudie Suits vor einem mit Sternen übersäten Wüstenhimmel, kurz bevor ein neuer Tag anbricht im Leben des Frankie Trombone. Das Album wurde in der ganzen Schweiz ausgiebig betourt. Auch live war Simi Fässler an der Pedal Steel als Gastmusiker mit dabei. Davon wurde das erste live Album digital veröffentlicht; «Frankie’s Live».

 

Auf in neue Sphären 2024 - ???

Bassist Thomas Uttinger hat nach Beendigung der Frankie Trombone Tour leider seinen Austritt bekannt gegeben. Ersatz wurde glücklicherweise schnell gefunden; Remo Betschart nahm der frei gewordene Platz am Viersaiter ein. Studio-Album Nr. vier ist bereits im Kasten und wird im Herbst 2024 veröffentlicht. Man darf gespannt sein. Was aber schon verraten werden kann: Country ist Geschichte, es geht aber dennoch nicht zurück zum altbekannten Sound. Im Sommer wird die Band zudem auf vielen Bühnen anzutreffen sein.

Dear Misses were founded in 2017 in Muotathal SZ by Fabian Schelbert (voc, git), Jonas Marty (voc, git), Cornel Betschart (dr), Remo Betschart (b) and Belinda Villforth (voc, perc). Their self-invented genre “Bluesadelic” is mash-up of garage, blues, rock, psychedelic and country elements.

The band has released three studio albums, one live album, an EP and numerous music videos to date and has played numerous shows throughout Switzerland. Several songs have made it onto national and international radio programs (e.g. CH, USA, NZ). Their records breathe the analog spirit of magnetic tapes, oxidation and disorder, their live shows sparkle with spontaneity. A new studio album will be released in 2024. 

 

Early days 2017 - 2019

Dear Misses were founded in 2017 by Fabian Schelbert (voc, git, b), Cornel Betschart (dr) and Jonas Marty (voc, git, b) in Muotathal, Canton Schwyz. It all started with a Tascam 8-track cassette deck, a stuffy recording room in the basement of their former shared flat, a handful of song ideas and two weeks of Christmas vacation. Spontaneously and without any pressure, the debut album “No. 5 Small Town Tunes” was recorded in just a few days. It sounds like a debut should sound; raw, energetic, dirty and imperfect and was released on vinyl on the band's own label “Monobuster Records”. Eight original compositions and three covers can be found on the album. Garage, blues, rock, country and psychedelic were the ingredients. It quickly was spread around the music scene, radio airplay in the USA and Switzerland followed and first live gigs were booked. Ueli Betschart was brought in as live bassist and the German-speaking part of Switzerland was eagerly toured. The follow-up “Green is the New Mustard” was recorded at the end of 2017, once again on 8-track cassette. This time, the band only had four originals and one cover song in the backhand, and so the mini-album was only released digitally. 2018/2019 the band played numerous shows throughout Switzerland.

 

Monster's Mother - Dear Misses as a five piece 2020 - 2022

In summer 2019, the new, fully analog recording studio was set up in a 100-year-old house. A 16-track half-inch tape machine was now available, which is already hi-fi by Dear Misses standards. The band took a break from concerts to concentrate on the next album. 19 songs were written and recorded. The result is “Monster's Mother”, a very diverse album on which the band has set itself no limits and refined its stylistic diversity. The double album was released on vinyl via Monobuster Records in fall 2020. Numerous airplays, even in New Zealand, several reviews in music magazines and good vinyl sales were the result of the hard work. “Mr. Bombastic” even made it into the rotation of the Swiss radio station “Couleur 3”. Bassist Ueli Betschart announced his departure in 2020. An old friend joined the band as bassist; Thomas Uttinger. Belinda Villforth, who already sang as a guest singer on the last album, joined the band permanently as a backing singer and occasional lead singer and percussionist.

 

Frankie Trombone – a trip into country 2022-2023

On their third album, the band have made a real stylistic break. Distorted guitars and howling fuzz solos have been exchanged for acoustic guitars, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, violin, blues harp and harmony vocals. It's a concept album about the life of fictional wild west outlaw "Frankie Trombone." The 12 original compositions deal with the erratic life of an outsider, his heartbreak, loneliness, inner turmoil, social ostracism, failure and eventual death. Despite the lyrical heaviness, the songs carry a vibe of summer lightness. On a musical level, Gram Parsons' vision of Cosmic American Music continues; country and folk are blended with rockabilly, psychedelic, blues and even trip hop. Deeply impressed by the maestro, "Ennio Morricone", elements of the Italo-Western soundtrack are also present in the songs. Typical for "Dear Misses", the album was recorded and mixed completely analog. For the album cover, the five musicians pose in custom-made nudie suits, decorated with glitter stones and psychedelic subjects in front of a star-studded desert sky, shortly before a new day dawns in the life of Frankie Trombone. The album was toured extensively throughout Switzerland. Simi Fässler also performed live as a guest musician on pedal steel. The first live album was released digitally; “Frankie's Live”.

 

A new era begins 2024 - ???

Bassist Thomas Uttinger unfortunately announced his departure after the end of the Frankie Trombone Tour. Fortunately, a replacement was quickly found; Remo Betschart took his place on the four-string. Studio album number four is already in the can and will be released in fall 2024. We can look forward to it. But what can already be revealed: Country is history, but there will be no return to the familiar sound. The band will also be performing on many stages this summer.
